Ensure the racking is installed by a qualified professional according to the manufacturer's specifications. The racks must be level, plumb, and securely anchored to the floor.
Never exceed the stated load capacity. Post clear signs on or near the racks indicating the maximum weight limits per beam and per bay. All employees should be trained on these limits.
Train all warehouse personnel on safe loading and unloading procedures, proper forklift operation, and how to identify and report damaged racking.
Install rack protectors and column guards on vulnerable rack uprights, especially at the ends of aisles and in high-traffic areas, to prevent damage from forklift impacts.
Design the warehouse layout with appropriate aisle widths that allow forklifts and other equipment to operate safely without the risk of collisions.
